He then received his Masters of Music and Performers Diploma at Southern Methodist University. His primary teachers are James Moore, Richard Killmer, and Erin Hannigan.

In addition to performing Max is an enthusiastic oboe teacher. He has six years of teaching experience and while living in Dallas he taught a total of 50 oboists. His teaching experience has been invaluable and has taught him how to best serve his students. Wherever his students may be, he strives to meet them where they are. From there he creates specific exercises for them to improve in needed areas. He is invested in helping his students, and accepts all ages and ability levels.
